About Me

So, a little bit about me.

My name is Max Coltrane, I was born 33 years ago in a small coastal town on the Southeast coast of England, UK.

The long story short is that I have grown very well mainly from my own doing. I believe that many lives can be touched and I have certainly done that and find it deeply rewarding.

More to the point, when I left my at the time, non-existent life many years ago, I left the UK and lived in the remote rain forest of Brazil for 6 months. My Dad (who passed away when I was 17) had travelled Brazil many years prior so this has always inspired such a meaningful passion for myself to do similar.

My experience in Brazil was absolutely epic and I will be blogging all of my amazing stories on here. Brazil gave me the travel bug, badly (as well as a new language, deadly encounters, intensity, scares, freedom, rich culture, insane experiences and formidable wildlife). Brazil really did have it all.

I held on to this travel bug for a long time until enough was enough. So, at the age of 29 and with just a buckled push bike to my name, no licences, trades, promising career or degrees, I decided to up and leave again. This time though, I left with a one-way ticket (to Thailand), no real plan at all, not a great deal of money and I was fed up of my anxiety ridden life, so facing all my fears was what I wanted to do.

Facing fears is exactly what I did and I can honestly say, hand on heart that I know my life started at 29 and what has happened since leaving the UK in 2013 is nothing short of unbelievable. My book highlights this as from story to story, experience to experience it is a real page turner. Living this page turner was even more insane, but the rewards are that great I have had tears of joy, euphoria and the ultimate freedom ever imaginable.

What I have now compared to then is a whole world apart. I have easily achieved, experienced and faced abundant fears a hundred times over compared to the first 29 years of my life. I wish I had read a book like the one I have decided to write based from the raw experiences I have had since leaving the UK in 2013. Stepping Out – All or Nothing allows the reader to go through everything I have been through since leaving England in 2013 and it will not disappoint in the slightest. My book will be in three main parts.

Where I am now, is back doing what I am naturally made for which is is helping troubled youth. This time however, I am in the only place in the world where I can work with such a generation of people. The significance of my work that I love and enjoy involves the richest of culture, working with traumatised youth, developing life skills, ancient traditions and learning, as well as teaching an incredible amount.

I have been strongly advised time and time again that due to my phenomenal, mind-blowing and hard-hitting experiences that I should write a book as well as get a blogging site going so here I am. Stepping Out – All or Nothing, is being published as we speak and steppingoutmax.com will also not let you down. It will be full of fascinating stories, free tips, free advice, meaningful blogs and I am deeply passionate about sharing my story that I will put my heart and soul into an amazing novel, books and blog. My book will available to buy on all the usual sites. My mission is to inspire, get people travelling, open-minds, face fears and I can promise a great read for all ages and do not have any ambition at all to gain financially. My passion is that incredible I have spent just over 5k already on ensuring my book is handled professionally yet, I have the complete final word which is the most important thing.

Everything comes from rich, pure and raw experiences from which I have lived extensively in five completely different countries which have all had vastly different cultures.

FB_IMG_1515599071176I have so much more travelling to do yet and my plans are so big. During my time travelling to at least 30 different countries and have just added Kenya, Tanzania, Sri Lanka and UAE to the list with some incredible stories coming from Africa and Sri Lanka. I have learnt such a lot and it’s about time I shared it all.

Due to libel reasons regarding my novels that are based entirely on a true story my name Max Coltrane is my author/pseudonym name.

My name Max was the name given to me in Brazil as well as many other countries so it is a meaningful name. As for Coltrane, my Dad gave me this name as one of my middle names. John Coltrane was a famous saxophone player and my Dad’s favorite musician so the name Coltrane is also symbolic as well as  meaning a lot to me.

Thank you and enjoy my site, Max

Face Fears.   Travel Far.   Dream Big.

I Am Starting Again With My Site – Same Site – Stepping Out Max

Hey, Max here, just so any followers, viewers, subscribers, friends or family that visited my site recently and wondered why it is bare, this is due to me changing my whole approach. I am very new to blogging so I went about it all the wrong way. After some very honest feedback from some close friends it was brought to my attention that I went far too fast with my site which is so true. In just 2 weeks I had turned my meaningful travel blogging site into an online magazine, it was all over the place.

Yes, I had great content but what was I thinking?

The main reason for my blogging site is purely to inspire through my raw experience when facing fear, travelling far and dreaming big. From now on I am going to put my heart and soul into each post and draw out the very best from my travels, journey and adventure and I want to add value to all viewers. I not only want to share so much but I want to give my viewers what they want at their pace so tips, guidance, advice will be given. I will also be giving away free books to any followers and subscribers.

I feel I should start only with my travels as this is where I really have some mind-blowing stuff to share, eyes to open and heads to turn I have some truly epic stories.

My first post will be about my world records, survival story, pushing myself to the absolute extreme and defying my own physical and mental expectations. This was when I completed an intense 15 day or so walk in Nepal climbing above 5,500 metres in just 4 and a half days. I may look relaxed laying down here but this was about day 3 at 8am and I was already mentally, physically and emotionally drained.

We (me and Ram) kept walking until it was dark. This whole experience brings me chills just thinking about it and it is about time I shared it on a blog rather than my ABC News interview soon after. I was saving it only for my book but the build up, extra emotional value (which my book will lead up to, fulfil and surpass) and how it puts all the pieces of my book together will already make the story in my book even more of a page turner.

With the back ups of my live ABC News interview after breaking these records, a signed certificate of proof as well as signed statements from the trekking company I went with I can promise you my first blog will be immense. I will be transported back to the desperate time when I was up in the Himalayas ready to curl up and die but me and my guide pushed each other until we saw a light and were saved by a local man but we had made it to a safe home, finally. Altitude sickness, food poisoning, a ripped shoulder muscle, unimaginable blisters, tears and fears, it’s all in there plus more. We still had a full day’s walk after this but we finally made it in the late afternoon where I put up with the pain one last time to put my bag above my head and man, it felt good.

My second blog will take me back to when I lived in the remote rain forest of Brazil for 6-months. The night I decided to go camping deep in the jungle I had a fright that I never forget when something I fear greatly jumped on my shoulder. I was with a well known and respected snake, spider and you name it, he handles it bloke who is also from the UK, Chris Knowles. This was a night we will never forget. The jungle really does come alive at night and this night will be one me and Chris always remember and laugh about (now). From fresh puma prints, huge spiders, creatures I didn’t know existed to mammals right near me as I tried to sleep, scary sounds and I even had a painful fungal infection, what a night that was. This actual rainforest, The Atlantic Rainforest, Brazil is the 3rd most biodiverse place on the planet for wildlife. These are just a few of the photos of some of the creatures from that epic night camping in the remote rainforest.

These two introductions to my journey, path and story are the first of many so this time I will be concentrating on just one thing, Epic Travel and everything that comes with it.

I will have a nice little ‘about me,’ a sweet little ‘introduction’ about the book I have written and I will link a story from the actual book too. It was a great learning curve understanding that rushing something defeats the purpose and the real me was lost.

I am so passionate about the immense journey I have had, what it has done and what I had compared to what I now have, that my main book (launches in 4-5 months) plus my soon to be published ebooks will be completely free to followers and subscribers of steppingoutmax.com. My main book – Stepping Out – All or Nothing has cost me a fair few thousand dollars but my passion to inspire overrides any financial cost as I feel I have a great gift to give, so my site and books will certainly give an immense gift. I want to reach out, communicate with and inspire the people that purely gain from any or all of my content.
